Postpartum Acupuncture Auckland
Supporting recovery, nourishment and rest after birth
The postpartum period can be beautiful, intense, overwhelming, emotional, and deeply depleting, often all at once. While much of the focus naturally shifts to baby after birth, Traditional Chinese Medicine recognises the importance of caring for the mother too.
At ORA Acupuncture, I support women through the fourth trimester with acupuncture, moxa, postpartum nourishment support, and space to slow down and recover after birth. Treatments are tailored to each woman and may support recovery from labour or C-section birth, breastfeeding challenges, fatigue, nervous system regulation, muscular tension, emotional wellbeing, and postpartum depletion.
Clinics are located in Pt Chevalier and Birthcare Parnell, supporting women and families across Auckland.
The reality of postpartum recovery
Postpartum care in clinic often looks very different to what people imagine.
I often see mothers arrive completely exhausted, running on very little sleep, trying to hold everything together while adjusting to life with a new baby — or life with two, three, or four children needing them at once. Sometimes they come alone, sometimes with their babies in tow. It’s not uncommon for me to hold a sleeping baby while mum finally rests on the treatment bed for a moment of quiet and care herself.
Many women are navigating this season without the support network they expected. Family may live out of town or overseas, partners may be back at work, and the reality of postpartum recovery can feel surprisingly isolating.
In clinic I often support women experiencing issues such as low milk supply, threatening mastitis, fatigue, emotional overwhelm, poor sleep, digestion changes, or discomfort and numbness around C-section scars. Others simply feel depleted, teary, flat, touched out, and unsure how to nourish themselves while giving so much to everyone around them.
Traditional Chinese Medicine views the postpartum period as a time that requires warmth, rest, nourishment, and rebuilding. Acupuncture, gentle bodywork, moxa, and simple dietary support can help mothers slow down, regulate their nervous systems, and support recovery after birth.
Sometimes treatment is less about “fixing” something, and more about creating space for a mother to be held and cared for too.

General postpartum nourishment and recovery
Traditional Chinese Medicine and postpartum nourishment
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the weeks following birth are considered an important window for healing and recovery. After pregnancy, labour, and birth, the body is often viewed as being in a more depleted and vulnerable state, requiring warmth, nourishment, rest, and rebuilding.
In clinic I often speak with women about simple ways to support recovery through warming foods, hydration, rest, and gentle nourishment. This may include slow-cooked meals, broths, warming soups, blood-building foods, and avoiding excessive cold and depletion during the early postpartum period.

What to expect during treatment
Treatments are gentle, supportive, and tailored to where you are at physically and emotionally during postpartum recovery.
Babies are always welcome in clinic, and treatments are designed to feel grounding and restorative. Some women use this time to talk and decompress, while others simply rest quietly on the table.
Appointments may include acupuncture, moxa, cupping, gentle bodywork, scar support, acupressure and practical diet and lifestyle advice depending on your needs.
